On Thursday July 23, 1998, at exactly 8:27 am and 14 seconds pacific daylight time, Foodmaker accessed this site. A complaint was lodged, and, as they said they had a viable request, I pulled down the site at exactly 11:00 am, July 23.
They said I misinterpreted the copyright laws. I thought they were designed to stop people from making a profit off of other peoples' work, when in actuality, it prevents people from using other people's work without their permission regardless of profit.
I have since looked up the portion of the copyright law known as "fair use." I think my site falls under fair use. But it's always up to debate. To learn about fair use, click here. I consulted with a lawyer, and he agrees with me. However, in it's current state, Crack In The Box is close enough that I could be sued. I'd have a good chance of winning, but I don't want to go to court in the first place.
A major overhaul is called for. Sadly, I don't have the time at the moment. Someday. I'll e-mail anyone who asks me to when it finally goes back up.
